NightCoop Host and Join Guide for Cyberpunk 2077
Understand the NightCoop Host and Guest flow, shared save responsibilities, build matching and direct or relay connection options.
How a NightCoop session is organized
NightCoop uses a Host-led shared world. The Host owns the save that controls the world state, while each Guest enters that world with their own V.
That produces two different checks before anyone connects:
- the Host must prepare the shared world;
- every Guest must have a compatible NightCoop build and understand which character state belongs to them.
The official NightCoop page describes the flow as:
- Install RED4ext and NightCoop.
- The Host opens a co-op session from the in-game co-op menu.
- Guests join directly or through the relay hub.
Host responsibilities
The Host is not just the person who clicks invite. The Host save owns quest progress, NPC state and city state.
Before opening the session:
- Confirm the supported Cyberpunk 2077 version.
- Confirm the NightCoop build.
- Confirm RED4ext is present.
- Tell every Guest the exact build being used.
- Decide whether PvP should be enabled for the session.
The Host should also explain that the shared world follows the Host save. A Guest should not assume that their own world progress will become the group's world state.
Guest responsibilities
Each Guest enters with their own V, appearance, level, equipment and implants. This is personal character state, not a replacement for the Host's world save.
Guests should verify:
- the same Cyberpunk 2077 patch as the Host;
- the same NightCoop build;
- the latest official release status;
- whether they are joining directly or through the relay hub.
If one Guest is on another build, the group should resolve that first. Asking everyone to retry the connection without comparing versions is not a controlled troubleshooting step.
Direct UDP or relay hub
NightCoop lists two connection routes:
- direct UDP connection;
- relay hub connection.
Use the official interface and current build as the source for the exact option names. If a direct connection fails, testing the relay route can help separate a network-path issue from a broader installation problem, but only after the game and NightCoop builds match.
Start the shared world
The Host should load the intended saved world before opening the co-op session. Confirm that the correct save is selected and that the group understands the Host-owned world state.
Then:
- Open the in-game co-op session flow.
- Confirm the session is using the group's agreed build.
- Choose whether PvP is enabled.
- Give Guests the connection information exposed by the current build.
- Have Guests join directly or through the relay hub.
The official page does not provide a universal screenshot for every build. When the interface changes, record the build and date instead of presenting an old menu label as permanent.
What happens to story choices and combat
Story choices are decided by majority vote. Combat is shared, so the party is operating in the same world rather than playing separate campaigns.
This is why the Host's save matters:
- quest progress follows the shared world;
- NPC state follows the shared world;
- city state follows the shared world;
- each Guest still brings their own V and personal equipment.
The shared-world reference expands these rules:
Match the mod and game builds
Every player should know these values before joining:
| Check | Host | Guest |
|---|---|---|
| Cyberpunk 2077 version | Required | Required |
| NightCoop build | Required | Required |
| RED4ext | Required | Required |
| Character | Host save's shared world | Guest's own V |
| Connection | Direct or relay | Direct or relay |
If any row is uncertain, pause and inspect it.
Common pre-connection mistakes
Do not start with random fixes. First rule out:
- one player using a different NightCoop build;
- a game patch that is not listed as supported;
- RED4ext missing or coming from an unconfirmed source;
- a Guest trying to use their own world save as the Host's world;
- a direct connection being tested while the relay route remains untested.
